The Commonwealth Building is a 21-story structure located in downtown Pittsburgh’s Central Business District. Originally constructed in 1906 as the Commonwealth Trust Bank, the building has long been a recognizable part of the Fourth Avenue corridor.

The project involved converting the existing office building into 150 residential units with street-level retail. Working within the constraints of the original structure required careful planning, coordination, and attention to existing conditions throughout construction.

The completed project reflects a broader shift toward adaptive reuse in downtown Pittsburgh, providing a new residential option while maintaining the character of a historic building. The Commonwealth Building received NAIOP Pittsburgh’s 2022 Multifamily Renovation of the Year award.
